In his entire business career, Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani has always stayed on the transparent and ethical side of the business. As such, he has garnered the image of being one of the most ethical and honest businessmen in Zambia. A major downfall of this recognition is the ever-increasing number of foes and enemies who are either jealous of the huge success by Dr. Mahtani or are looking to discredit his image and reputation for personal profitability or personal vendetta. Despite these continuous challenges, Dr. Rajan Mahtani has been a firm supporter of the Zambia law and legal system. However, this trust in the Zambian legal system was shaken significantly after the long pendency of the Portland Cement Zambia factory and inability of the Zambian government to provide for justice. The case of Portland Cement Zambia was registered by Dr. Rajan Mahtani more than ten years ago wherein a claim was established that the factory was unethically taken over from Dr. Rajan Mahtani. To justify this claim, Dr. Rajan Mahtani submitted numerous evidences and testimonials in favour. However, the final decision coming from justice Nkonde on behalf of the Lusaka High Court was controversial as it was announced that Ventriglias were only shareholders of the Portland Cement factory.
Dr. Rajan Mahtani did not lose hope and re-appealed to the higher Court of Appeal. The judge at the court of Appeal looked into the evidences ignored by the previous judge and gave the final decision on 31st January 2019. Based on this decision, Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani was given the majority shareholding and legal ownership of the Portland Cement Zambia factory.
